9 Ways to Keep a Home Safe from Criminals powered by Chogon Guards and Safety

Home Safety Tips:

9 Ways to Keep a Home Safe from Criminals

Whether you are a homeowner or a renter, it is always a good idea to practice home safety tips. Recent study shows that a lot of crimes are being committed in people's residences- burglaries, armed robberies, and home invasions to name a few. Here are various ways to keep your home safe
Home Safety Tips # 1: Security Alarm System:
Consider investing in an alarm system for your home. You can contact Chogons for advice on how to get that. Make sure that the alarm system has a panic button feature that you can easily use.
Home Safety Tips # 2: Deadbolts:
Your home should have deadbolts with full one-each bolts on all entry doors. These should be installed in addition to existing locksets. For doors with glass panels within three feet of the lock, it should have a double-cylinder deadbolt requiring a key on both sides; this way a burglar cannot simply break the glass and reach through to unlock the door. If your door has conventional glass panels, consider replacing them with shatterproof glass or polycarbonate material.
Home Safety Tips # 3: Re-Key Locks:
If you have just moved to a new house or apartment, have all the locks re-keyed immediately. Better yet accomplish this before you move in.
Home Safety Tips # 4: Limit Number of Keys:
Limit the keys only to members of the family that live with you. If you must share a key with a relative, especially when you are going on vacation and you need a house sitter- make sure that the person is trustworthy. Make sure that they return your key right away. If you have a hired help, for example a babysitter or a cleaning lady, and you ended up firing that person for whatever reason; make sure to change the locks immediately, even if you get your keys back.
Home Safety Tips # 5: Designate a Safe Room and an Escape Route:
Install a deadbolt lock on the door of your home office or den, so that it becomes your "safe or panic" room that you can lock yourself into if you are threatened. Plan an escape route from the upper floor by adding a rope ladder in a room upstairs.
Home Safety Tips # 6: Lighting:
Make sure that your main entrances, porches, driveways, and front walkways are well-lit. Turn on interior lights when you are away in the evenings.
Home Safety Tips # 7: Where's the Key?
Don't hide your house keys under doormats, inside your mailbox, or planters. These are obvious places that criminals would look for keys. Also, never put a name in your address and name on your key chain, it would be easy for criminals to find where you live and have access to your home and car.
Home Safety Tips # 8: Garage Doors:
Keep your garage doors closed and lock them at night. Make sure your garage windows are all closed and locked; it is hard to hear someone in your garage door because you may be inside watching TV not noticing the criminal activities happening inside your garage. Also, garages have ladders and other tools that can help criminals gain access to the main part of your home; so keeping your garage secured at all times will not entice the criminals to target your home.
Home Safety Tips # 9: Have Your Home Analyzed for Security:
For a detailed security analysis of your home, contact a bonded professional like Chogons Guards and Safety Ltd. Finally, you can ask for help or advice from your local police department; call them immediately of you see, hear, or have a good reason to suspect that a crime is being committed.

Top ten tips to effectively securing your home against theft

With a few straightforward steps gleaned from police and Chogon Guards experience around the country, however, you can help protect your home and belongings from thieves.

1. All locked up
Many opportunistic thieves take advantage of unlocked homes. Even if you are going out for a short time, lock-up your house and windows using appropriate door and window locks, and key all the windows to a single key.
Also keep your car and other valued items in a locked facility .

2. Don't provide cover
Deter thieves from targeting your house by ensuring a clear line of sight from the street. Cut back trees and bushes that obscure your front door, look into installing movement sensor lights and report broken street lights straight away. Chogon Guards also suggest making sure your house number is visible for the fastest response if you need to call for help.

3. Upgrade your defences
A high number of victims (60 per cent) according to Chogon Guards research cited a door or window had been damaged or tampered with in attempted break-ins, so it pays to invest in strengthening these defences measures.

4. Monitor all targets
Garages and garden sheds are often targets for burglars who can then use your tools or ladders to gain access to the main house or apartment.

5. Security doesn't take a holiday
Ask reliable friends to assist in clearing refuse and over grown lawns while you're away from home. A neighbour parking in your driveway can also help signal the house is not unoccupied. Other measures could include internal lights or a radio set on timers to proof that someone is around.

6. Guard your keys
Most people know not to hide keys somewhere about the house but are you also aware that lending your keys to tradespeople and acquaintances can pose a risk?
Keys are easily copied and can provide burglars with fast, no-fuss access to your belongings.

7. Store valuables in a safe
Money and jewellery are most often stolen in break-ins according to Chogon Guards research. Installing a small safe in your home is a relatively low cost way to protect those items like cash and expensive jewelries if you must keep the at home.

8. Don't advertise valuables
Break up packaging for expensive new gear before tucking it into the bin or recycling. Also, take a look at your house from the outside. With most thieves looking for cash, even a wallet or iPods, phones closer to windows or near access points can make your home a target. Speaking of valuables, police advise making an inventory of your belongings to have at hand in case of a break-in. Mark your property using an engraver or ultra-violet markers and take photos of precious, one-of-a-kind possessions.

9. Install an alarm or deter thieves with a dog
Add another layer of defence to your home with an alarm system. A barking dog can also provide effective security for your home. Even installing a "Beware of the dog" sign can make thieves pause before targeting your home.

10. Make friends with your neighbours
In any community, people look out for each other. Neighbours can report suspicious activity at your home and help when you're away - and you can return the favour.

Securing Your Home From Break-Ins At Any Point In Time

One of the easiest crimes to prevent -- burglary -- is also one of the most common. If it happens at your home, you lose more than a few possessions. A break-in, even when you're not there, has a major impact on you and your family's sense of safety and well-being.
But burglaries don't have to happen. There are a lot of things you can do to boost home security and make your house burglary-resistant. Here are tips you can use to help you keep your family safe and your home and its contents intact.

Don't Advertise You're Away

The first thing a burglar looks for when choosing a house for a break-in is one with no one in it. If you make your house look occupied when you're gone, most burglars will simply pass it by. Here are some ways to do that.

• Use automatic light timers throughout the house and have them turn on and off in a way that simulates your normal patterns. Look for light timers that have battery backup so the timer doesn't stop if there is a power failure. Using timers that have more than one on-off cycle can create the illusion of movement from room to room.
• The same kind of timers you use on lights can also be used to turn radios or TVs on and off.
• Consider using timed automatic drape and curtain openers. Drapes that are always closed or always open suggest no one is home.
• Turn the volume of your phone's ringer down so someone outside can't hear them ring.
• If you can, have your calls forwarded while you're away. Burglars sometimes call to see if anyone's home before a break-in.
• Arrange to have your lawn cut or snow removed from your walks if you're going to be gone for a long period.
• Instead of stopping your mail and newspaper delivery, ask a neighbor to pick them up and hold them for you. Seeing deliveries being made makes a burglar think someone is at home.
• Ask a neighbor to use your trash can from time to time and to put it out at the curb and bring it back on trash day.
• Always park your car in the garage with the garage door closed when you are there. That way someone watching for patterns won't know your car isn't there when you're gone.
• In the interest of home security, never leave notes on the door. They just say to a burglar, "Come on in."

The Top 6 Benefits of Hiring Private Security Guards for Your Business
If your business needs additional security for its executives or to protect properties and premises, you may be thinking about hiring a private security firm to make sure everything is safe. However, many businesses tend to frown about the idea because of the costs involved not minding the consequences when the eventuality happens.
While a private security company can be costly in some cases, it’s worth the investment when you look at the benefits involved —
1. Protection Around the Clock
If your business has a well-known executive or professional that may be a target somewhere, these guards are going to be able to offer protection around the clock. Whether you want them to drive the executive around town, fly to a foreign country or just walk the premises while the executive is in the office, a private security firm will be on guard.
2. Quick Response Times
Unlike the local police department, a private security firm will be able to respond to a situation immediately. For example, if there was an unruly customer that was becoming aggressive, it could take the police more than 15 minutes to show up to resolve the problem. By this time, the customer that was causing problems could be long gone.
With a private security firm, they will be able to respond within minutes, if not seconds. If you’re worried about the police taking too long, it may be ideal to have a private security presence on your premises. That way, if a situation were to occur, the security firm would be able to control things before anything got out of hand.
3. Training
Just like the local police department, most private security firms have gone through extensive training. In fact, some companies may have more training than the local police officers. Whether you want to have an armed or unarmed guard, these certified companies will be more than qualified to get the job done. For example, Chogon Guards and Safety Limited offers a range of credible security services.
4. Surveillance
A private security firm is going to do more than just help you with dangerous situations. Aside from this, they can patrol your property, monitor security cameras, control room operations, respond to alarms and even operate a security gate. If your business doesn’t want to go through the trouble of hiring a new employee, training them and trusting them with your security, many businesses often hire an outside firm for a similar cost to make sure everything is safe.
5. Saves Money
Touching upon the last tip, an outside security firm can often save a business thousands of dollars. For example, if your company were to hire a new employee, train them and see them go after six months, you’re going to have to go through that training process all over again.
With that being said, a private security company will be able to offer you security services with professionals who are already trained, saving your business thousands. By hiring these outside services, your company will be able to focus on other resources.
6. Sense of Security
If your business has security walking around or they see a truck driving around the parking lot, this can prevent crime in the first place. Most of the time, criminals look for easy targets where there are no signs of anything security related. By taking the first step to hire a security company, this alone is going to prevent a lot of crime that would have happened if the company wasn’t there.
If you’re worried about your employees or company’s security, it’s important you consider the idea of hiring Chogon Guards and Safety Limited. By doing so, your business should be safer because of it.
